About
As a PA professor, PA graduates began reaching out to me during their first few years of PA practice for guidance. Early career PA’s felt isolated and overwhelmed and needed help. This coaching practice is a response to that need.
This coaching practice is also born out of another struggle that some PA graduates have brought to me - a difficulty with setting professional and internal boundaries.
A life spent practicing medicine - and providing the best care possible to patients- requires an unrelenting dedication to our patients and a deep sense of responsibility. Mix this responsibility together with the current American medical system, and there is very little room for new physician assistants to feel that it is good or healthy to leave work on time, to delegate certain tasks, to build a practice of acceptance around things beyond our control, or to take action that prioritizes our well being. The culture is often one of guilt if we prioritize ourselves over the well being of our practice. This can lead to exhaustion, burnout and cynicism early on in a PA career.
Despite working in a high burnout specialty, I love my job more today than ever, even with the drastic changes to healthcare following the pandemic. It is possible for all PA’s to build a strong foundation in medicine despite the busy demands of day to day medical work. The tools of boundaries and self care can allow all PA’s to feel nourished in their practice and stay deeply connected to the healer within them, despite our ailing healthcare system.
Whether you are a brand new PA who needs someone in your corner providing guidance and structure, or an early career PA who is yearning for change in your current medical practice, I am here for you.
